More than 15,000 visitors attended the inaugural Halal Food Festival at Excel London on 27-29 September.

An array of chefs and celebrities appeared at the show including Jean Christophe-Novelli, Shelina Permalloo, Abdul Yaseen and Nigel Brown who presented in the Live Demonstration Kitchen and Cooking School.

Halal Events aimed to celebrate the range and diversity of halal foods from around the world, to “raise the range and quality of halal offerings to the consumer,” said Imran Kausar, founder of the Halal Food Festival. “The growing British Muslim middle-classes have greater needs and demands from food producers, retailers and restaurateurs and command significant spending power.”

A highlight of the festival included the Human Appeal Stage with live music from Islamic music acts Mesut Kurtis and Saif Adams. More than 100 exhibitors including restaurants and street food stalls showcased their products to visitors, also known as ‘haloodies’.

“With such a specific brief and a really fresh vision, it was a project we were immediately excited about and are pleased that we were able to assist during the recruitment process and also provide a level of exhibition specific support to the participating exhibitors,” said Paul Tomes, director of The Expo People, who aided Halal Events with the recruitment of exhibitors.
