BANGLADESH: Establishing training, research institutes by Islamic banks stressed

Speakers at a workshop have underscored the need for establishing training and research institutes by Islamic banks nationally.They were speaking at a day-long workshop organised by Central Shariah Board for Islamic Banks of Bangladesh (CSBIB) on Islamic Banking in the city recently, said a press release.

Secretary General of CSBIB AQM Safiullah Arif presided over the inaugural ceremony.

The workshop was organised for Muraquibs (Shariah inspector) who are working in banks and financial institutions providing Islamic banking services in the country.

The speakers also laid emphasis on establishing enriched library and research cell at every bank and financial institutions, taking combined initiatives to publicise the Islamic banking mechanism and terminology through print and electronic media.

They made the recommendations in a bid to expanding and flourishing Islamic banking and financing industries and formulating a working group comprising Muraquibs with a view to exchanging Shariah knowledge and expertise among them.

The workshop was addressed, among others, by Managing Director of Islami Bank Bangladesh Mohammad Abdul Mannan, Managing Director of Shahjalal Islami Bank Md Abdur Rahman Sarker, Managing Director of EXIM Bank Dr Mohammad Haider Ali Miah, Managing Director of Social Islami Bank Md Shafiqur Rahman, Managing Director of Al-Arafah Islami Bank Md Habibur Rahman, Managing Director of Islamic Finance and Investment M Rabiul Islam, Deputy Managing Director of Union Bank Syed Abdullah Mohammad Saleh, Deputy Managing Director of First Security Islami Bank Kazi Osman Ali and Deputy Managing Directors of Islami Bank Bangladesh Mohd. Shamsul Haque, Md Habibur Rahman Bhuiyan and Md Nurul Islam Khalifa.

Chairman of the Executive Committee of CSBIB Shah Abdul Hannan was present at the concluding session as the chief guest.

A total of 81 executives and officials from Bangladesh Bank, Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited, Social Islami Bank, Al-Arafah Islami Bank, EXIM Bank, Shahjalal Islami Bank, First Security Islami Bank, ICB Islamic Bank, Union Bank, Sonali Bank, Agrani Bank, Pubali Bank, Prime Bank, Dhaka Bank, Southeast Bank, Jamuna Bank, Premier Bank, City Bank, AB Bank, Bank Asia, Standard Chartered Bank, Trust Bank, Islamic Finance and Investment and CSBIB took part in the workshop.
