PHILIPPINES: Cotabato City LGU pursues P15-M halal slaughter house

A new facility will soon rise in Cotabato City as construction of a multi-million modern project starts seen to boost socio-economic growth in the area at its adjacent localities.

A ground breaking ceremony and signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was held Sept 25 between the city government and the National Meat Inspection Commission (NMIC)   and witnessed by Halal Industry focal person Dr. Norodin Kuit, Dr. Danda Juanday of the business community and other local officials signaling the start of the project implementation.

Mayor Guiani said, the P15 million project, the first modern halal slaughter house in the country,  will be constructed in a one-hectare lot located in barangay Mother Tamontaka, this city.

Guiani said, funds received from the Seal of Good Housekeeping is allocated to finance the implementation of the halal slaughter house project with equity from the city government.

Seen as center for the  halal industry in the region, Guiani is optimistic the benefits the community and nearby areas could derive from the modern facility particularly attracting investments to come in and generate job opportunities that would further enhance the city’s economic growth.

Meanwhile, Guiani has likewise disclosed the plan for the construction of another slaughter house with facilities at barangay Kalanganan, this city, to cater to the growing need for a permanent structure and area purposely for hogs and swine dealers.(PBChangco/PIA Cotabato City)
