PAKISTAN: Halal Food scheme increases demand of Pakistani products

ISLAMABAD, July 24 (APP): Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Zahid Hamid, lauded the role of Pakistan National Accreditation Council (PNAC) for launching the Halal Food Accreditation Scheme which has increased the demand of Pakistani products not only at local level but also in Muslim countries. He said this during his visit to PNAC, here today. The Federal Minister was briefed about the importance of the role of PNAC in the World Trade Organization (WTO) regime. PNAC Director General, Khalid Mahmood, explained about the activities of PNAC and its International Recognition by having Mutual Recognition Arrangement with International and Regional organisations and the benefits for the accredited organisations.

The Minister appreciated the role of the organisation and said that in this globalised world, the importance of standard and quality of products increased many times to compete in the international market.

Federal Secretary, Akhlaq Ahmed Tarrar, was also present on the occasion, who apprised the Federal Minister about the importance of the role of PNAC as a National Accreditation Body.

The Federal Minister urged that necessary steps be taken to accredit the Medical Laboratories. The Federal Minister emphasised the need to enhance the capacity of PNAC by necessary trainings and its participation in obligatory meetings.
