KUCHING, Sarawak : An eatery in Kota Samarahan, about 25km from here, was ordered closed by the Sarawak Health Department today for serving halal food together with non-halal food.

The shut-down order for 14 days was issued by an enforcement team from the department after it raided the outlet, which operated on a 24-hour basis, at 9am.

Samarahan Health assistant officer Wan Alwie Wan Suud, who led the operation, said the workers at the outlet did not have food handling certificates and did not undergo health checks as required by the department.

Furthermore, the area for preparing food at the outlet was found to be very dirty while its electrical wiring system was unsafe, he added.

Wan Alwie said the shut-down order would only be reviewed after the owner of the outlet implemented the stipulated cleaning and repair works and complied with other related conditions including involving the workers.      — BERNAMA
