KUCHING, Sarawak: Poultry producers are feeling the festive cheer as meat consumption has shown a gradual increase during this Ramadan month and as the Hari Raya celebration approaches.
With this in mind, CCK Fresh Marts has increased its supply of chicken by 10 to 15 per cent to meet customer demands.
In highlighting this on Tuesday, CCK Consolidated Holdings Bhd chief operating officer Lim Teck Huat assured consumers that the quality and freshness of their chickens was definitely guaranteed.
“The whole process, beginning from the farm to the processing plant, is done with care and according to procedures required by Jais and Jakim to ensure that the end products are halal,” he emphasised.
“The birds will go through several rounds of checking to ensure they fulfil the halal requirement and we will thoroughly inspect chicken for physical damage, disease or bruise during production,” he said.
CCK, according to Lim, processes some 30,000 chickens daily for Kuching market alone.
“Our poultry processing plant, equipped with machine, is able to process some 4,000 chickens in an hour and we try to run the machine to its full capacity,” he explained.
“The slaughter process, however, is carried out manually in accordance with the Halal requirement and Malaysian Standard MS 1500:2009,” he further said.
According to him, most of the chickens are sold in the 42 CCK outlets in Kuching while some 20 per cent are supplied to their clients like Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) and Singapore Chicken Rice (SCR).
In addition, Lim said, all chickens are harvested at night when it is cooler and the birds are more settled in order to retain their freshness before delivering straight to the outlets in the wee hours of the morning.
“I am proud to tell you that Sarawak produces the best chicken,” he added.
